LAGRANGE -- Valderya "Doodle" Fornes Brittain, 92, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012.
A service of remembrance will be held Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Smith and the Rev. Greg Stancil officiating. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Brittain was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Craven County to the late James G. Fornes and Viola Stokes Fornes. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Carlton Wayne "C.W." Brittain Jr. and was a member of White Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church. "Doodle" enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, flowers, gardening and cherished time with her family.
Mrs. Brittain is survived by one son, J.C. Brittain and wife, Frances, of LaGrange; three daughters, Judy Hart and husband, Duffy, of Kinston, Paulette Wade and husband, Sonny, of LaGrange and Peggy Brittain of LaGrange; seven grandchildren, Dr. Ray Brittain of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Donna Brittain of Winterville, Carla Batchelor of Kinston, Duffy Hart Jr. of Kinston, William Wade Jr. of Kinston, Kathy Brinn of Belhaven and Lee Ann Zorbaugh of LaGrange; and seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Brittain, Andrew Brittain, Aleah Brinn, Elyse Brinn, Jessica Batchelor; William Mason Wade and James Brice Wade.
The family will receive friends today from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Brittain family home, 5548 Bear Creek Road, LaGrange. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
