IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Janie Yates-Glandorf (born Janie Lataine Bartlett), 83, died Aug. 27, 2012, following a long illness.
Memorial services will be held at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Janie Yates Memorial Drama Scholarship Fund at City High School, 1900 Morningside Drive, Iowa City, Iowa, 52245, attn: Doug Lestina.

Janie was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Goldsboro to Luther and Janie Jackson Bartlett.
She was raised by Bertha Hill and James R. Bartlett.
She graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1947 and High Point College in 1951. She earned a master's degree in theater from the University of North Carolina in 1963. Her Ph.D. in English and theater education was awarded in 1978.
Janie married Rodney T. Yates of Concord in 1951, and they were divorced in 1977.
She married Gilbert Glandorf of Williamsburg, Iowa, in 1978.
Janie taught English and theater for 10 years in North Carolina, and taught those same subjects at City High School in Iowa City for 25 years.
In addition to her theater work at City, Janie organized several performance companies, including Crosstown Players, T.J. Theatre, SSRO at the Senior Center and Chamber Theatre Readers.
After her retirement from City High in 1991, she also volunteered at Mercy Hospital, the senior center and the ICCSD.
"Doc" Yates was an inductee in the City High Hall of Fame, and was named Educator of the Year in 1991. She was an inaugural inductee in the State of Iowa Thespian Directors' Hall of Fame. She is in Who's Who in Entertainment, and much of her written work is collected in the Iowa Women's Archives at the University of Iowa Library. She has had numerous articles published in educational and theater journals, as well as Shakespeare companion texts published by Perfection Learning Co.
Janie is survived by her husband, Gilbert Glandorf; a son, Tom Yates of Iowa City; and a daughter, Martha Scarpellino of East Lansing, Mich.
She has four-grandchildren, Ashley Yates, Christopher Yates, Lecia Castillo and Joe Scarpellino, and two great-grandchildren, Jahaira Guerra and Justin Castillo.
