SNOW HILL -- J.C. Bradshaw, 69, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012.

Born in Lenoir County Oct. 29, 1942, he was the son of the late Needham and Rachel Hines Bradshaw.

J.C. served his country for 20 years as a member of the United States Air Force combat control team and tactical air control party. He retired in 1981 at the rank of master sergeant, following two tours of duty in Vietnam, as well as other duty stations both abroad and in the United States.

Following retirement from the Air Force, J.C. continued his education at East Carolina University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in special education. He taught at Caswell Center and
Howell's Childcare Center.

A master craftsman, J.C. designed and built specialized equipment for the Air Force and assistive devices for his special needs students.

In his retirement, J.C. developed a national reputation for his construction of fine mountain dulcimers, which are noted for both their beauty and quality of sound.

J.C. and his wife, Nancy, made their home in the Greene County community of Arba.

His surviving family includes his wife, Nancy Galambush; daughters, Angela Bradshaw Kilpatrick and husband, Kent, of Raleigh and Anne Marie Bradshaw and partner, Chris Newton, of Raleigh; granddaughter, Jules Cara Kilpatrick of Raleigh; and siblings, Jane Byrd and husband, Kenneth, of Pink Hill, Nell Brock and husband, Buck, of Kenansville and Simon Bradshaw of Pink Hill.

A private memorial service for the family will be followed at a later date by a celebration of J.C.'s life for friends and extended family.
