Randy Kent Hopper, 54, passed away Saturday at his home.

Randy was born in Arkansas to Betty Graves Hopper of the Belfast community and the late Leonard Hopper.

He was the director of grounds and housekeeping for 25 years at Johnston Community College, and attended New Hope Friends Church.

In addition to being an avid fisherman, Randy enjoyed the outdoors, and enjoyed sharing vegetables from his garden with family and friends.

Randy was also a Civil War history buff.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in the chapel at Seymour Funeral Home, with Bill Garner officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Randy is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Griffin Hopper; children, Jeffrey Hopper and wife, Tina of Rosewood and Mary Ann Hopper Leon and husband, Jimmy, of Pikeville; a brother, Mike Hopper and wife, Connie, of the Belfast community; a sister, Ann Hopper Coor and husband, Tony, of Fuquay-Varina; and grandchildren, Jay Leon, Alex Johnson and Carlie Hopper.

Survivors also include his beloved pet poodle, Gracie Mae, and several aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Allen J. and Ruby Griffin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to New Hope Friends Church, 4451 E. U.S. 70, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield, N.C., 27577; or to the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence, 1704 Middleton Road, Goldsboro.
