CATHERINE B. MOORING
May 26, 1921-June 10, 2012
LAGRANGE -- Catherine Barnhill Mooring, 91, passed away early Sunday, June 10, 2012, surrounded by her family.
She was born May 26, 1921, in Pitt County to the late Arthur and Lillis Barnhill.
Mrs. Mooring graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University, in 1945, and taught at LaGrange School.
While living in LaGrange, she met and married Edward C. Mooring, while he was in the United States Navy stationed at Camp Lejeune. They lived at Camp Lejeune and Norfolk until he was discharged from the Navy.
After a few years in Tarboro, they returned to LaGrange, where they have lived since.
A member of LaGrange Christian Church, Catherine taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir for many years.
Catherine is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward C. Mooring; two children, James Edward and wife, Deane, of LaGrange and Betty Jo and husband, John Butler, of Cornelius; three grandchildren, Edward Trent Mooring and wife, Caroline, of Kinston, Megan Burton and husband, Ryan, of Charlotte and Audrey Bell and husband, Clinton, of Charlotte; and two great-grandchildren, Graham Burton of Charlotte and Eva Mooring of Kinston.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen, and two brothers, Roscoe and Horace.
A family graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at LaGrange Christian Church.
Catherine's family desires that memorials be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or LaGrange Christian Church, P.O. Box 442, LaGrange, N.C., 28551.
Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home of LaGrange.
