JOHN ARTHUR HAMILTON

RALEIGH -- John Arthur Hamilton, passed away April 18, 2012, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Born July 9, 1933, in Raleigh, he was the son of the late Guy Stephenson Hamilton and Julia Poole Hamilton, and brother of the late Rupert Hamilton.

He graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson in 1952, and joined the United States Air Force after graduation. He was a staff sergeant, working on classified information in Korea and Wyoming.

Following his honorable discharge, John graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University in 1962.

He worked for IBM in Endicott, N.Y., and transferred to Research Triangle in 1966. He took early retirement in 1992 after 30 years.

Following retirement, he worked with Senior Net of Raleigh, and was on the board of directors for the Raleigh Chapter, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and dear grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irma Gray Leggett Hamilton of Raleigh; daughter, Julia Hamilton Clarke and husband, Dr. D. Keith Clarke, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ryan Keith Clarke and Amy Kathryn Clarke; siblings, Janet Francis Hamilton Maybry and husband, John, of Campobello, S.C., and Larry "Lars" Hamilton of Sanford; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, April 22, 2012, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh, with services to begin at 3 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
