REV. J. D. EDDINS

MOUNT OLIVE --The Rev. J.D. Eddins, 82, died Friday at his home following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Browns Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Johnny Sasser and the Rev. Don Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Millard Bounds and the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating.

Born in Chesterfield, S.C., he was the son of the late Thomas Bruce and Aletha Mae Davis Eddins and was previously married to the late Ruby Eddins. Ordained into the ministry 66 years ago, he was the founder of Eddins Evangelistic Assoc. and instrumental in the organization of Campground Ministries on Topsail Island including Virginia Creek Campground Ministry, Chapel by the Bay at Surf City, Topsail RV Park at Holly Ridge and the Rogers Bay Campground. A member of Emmaus Baptist Church, he pastored many churches in our area including Calvary Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Eddins Candy Company for 35 years and known by many as "the candy man."

He is survived by his wife, Annette Peterson Barber Eddins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Eddins Peters and Michael of Surf City, and Brenda Eddins Best and Kenneth Mack of Mount Olive; two stepchildren and spouses, Sheila Barber Zahran and Jacob of Wilmington and Wilbert James Barber and Janet of Harrells; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, James Frederick Eddins and a grandson, Jeffrey Wayne Brock.

Family members will greet friends this evening from 5 until 7 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Flowers are welcome and memorial gifts may be made to Southeastern Cancer Care, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, NC 27530, or Emmaus Baptist Church, 704 Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, NC 28333.
