CHESAPEAKE, Ohio -- John J. McDaniel, 79, Chesapeake, Ohio, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., joined his Lord and savior Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, very peacefully while resting in the comfort of his family.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Renieca Ann McDaniel; two brothers, Charles and Randolph; and four sisters, Evelyn, Jean, Jenny and Sadie.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Damon Scott and Lisa McDaniel of Chesapeake, Ohio, Kenneth J. and Sandy McDaniel of Scottown, Ohio, and John K. and Angela McDaniel of Proctorville, Ohio, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed the last year of his life living with a close "buddy," grandson, Cody McDaniel.

He is also survived by a "special sister," Mae "Mamae" Hicks of Evington, Va., and a loving "adopted mom," Ruth McDaniel (Hoffman) of Goldsboro.

McDaniel was born Jan. 8, 1932, in Lynchburg, Va., to James T. McDaniel and Lillie Mae Brizendine.

He graduated from Goldsboro High School.

He was a member of the United States Air Force, serving at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

He followed into a career of education, first becoming a teacher for 14 years, teaching French, social studies and English, then proceeding to become a school administrator for an equal length of time.

McDaniel influenced many students over the years, loved teaching French and also fulfilled a lifetime passion of correcting the grammar of those around him.

McDaniel earned his master's degree from Marshall University.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, Ohio. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa, Ky.
