WILMINGTON -- Bessie Mae Outlaw Beasley, 79, Wilmington went home to be with Jesus, March 4, 2012, at approximately 12:45 p.m. at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Beasley was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Duplin County, daughter of the late William Allen Outlaw and Henrietta Millard Outlaw.

Her son-in-law, Donald V. Bohannon II; brother, Ray Outlaw; and two sisters, Lucile Blonder and Annie Kellum; preceded her in death.

Her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, her family and her career were of paramount importance to her. She devoted her life to her faith and service to her family.

Mrs. Beasley was a career educator, who retired with 27 years of service as a math and biology teacher with the North Carolina public schools. She is a 1952 graduate of B.F. Grady High School in Duplin County.

Her college education began at Mount Olive Junior College. After graduation with a major in mathematics and a minor in biological science from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson in 1967, her teaching career began immediately with the Goldsboro city school system at Goldsboro High School. Subsequent teaching positions in chronological order were in New Hanover County, Lumberton City, Bladen County, Nash County and Onslow County school systems, as well as one year in private education at Harrells Christian Academy prior to Nash County.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth Thomas Beasley; son, Eugene Thomas Beasley and wife, Laura; daughter, Glenda Beasley Bohannon all of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Donald Vance Bohannon III, Stephanie Diane Bohannon, Daniel Thomas Beasley and Phillip Kenneth Beasley; three sisters, Lois Shivar, Jean Byrd and Maggie Jones; two brothers, Durwood Outlaw and John Robert Outlaw; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012, and again from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, both at Andrews Market Street chapel.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Andrews Market Street chapel, with the Rev. Francis Daniel officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
