MOUNT OLIVE -- Mae Mellons Huggins, 84, of 148 Crest Drive, died Saturday morning, March 3, at Mount Olive Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, officiated by Dr. Dennis Atwood. The family will receive friends in the church's Christian Life Center immediately following the service. At other times, they will be at the residence.

A native of Orangeburg, S.C., she had been a Mount Olive resident since 1971, during which time she gained employment with the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, and Friends of Steele Memorial Library. Prior to becoming Mount Olive residents, the family had resided in Orangeburg, Columbia, and Florence, S.C., and Kinston.

Mrs. Huggins is survived by her husband of 57 years, former Mount Olive mayor, B.R. "Ruff" Huggins; two daughters, Candy Huggins Davis of Calypso and Connie Huggins Barber of Smithfield; and a granddaughter, Candace Rhiannon Barber of Smithfield.

Being an only child, she was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Bessie Mae Sanders Mellons; and a grandson, Devin Blade Barber.

Another visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway, S.C., followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Old Johnsonville Cemetery, New Section, at Johnsonville, S.C.
