EDWARD EMIL HEPFINGER

ALGONQUIN, Ill. -- Edward Emil Hepfinger, 90, Algonquin, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at the Devonshire of Lisle.

He was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Dundee, the son of Emil and Laura Jurs Hepfinger.

He had been a resident of Algonquin since the age of 6, and was a graduate of Dundee High School in 1940.

He was employed by Simplex, Armin Tool, South Elgin, for 11 years, and then owned his own business, Suburban Tool and Engraving, from 1967 until 1990.

He was a longtime part-time employee at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services in Algonquin, where he enjoyed working as a greeter and funeral assistant.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Algonquin, where he was a very active member of the men's club.

He was a longtime member of Algonquin Lions Club and a former chairman of the March of Dimes in McHenry County and was involved with the Cub Scouts and Meals on Wheels.

Ed was a basketball official with the IHSA for more than 25 years, and was an avid Cubs fan.

He was honored at the annual Algonquin Founder's Day Parade.

Surviving are his four children, Penny (Ken) Ritt of Goldsboro, Mike (Connie) Hepfiner of Basalt, Colo., Jim (Eliza) Hepfinger of Herndon, Va., and Terri (Chester) Radek of Downers Grove; and 10 grandchildren, Gerrit, Kevin, Emma, Andrea, Lisa, Mike, Eric, Derek, Nicole and Melissa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 62 years, Olga Frances Knaus Hepfinger, Aug. 6, 2007.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Algonquin. Burial will be in Algonquin Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services, 201 S. Main St., Algonquin, and Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services in the church.

Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Algonquin; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Goldsboro; or March of Dimes.
