MATTHEW CROOM

Nov. 14, 1957-March 1, 2012

Matthew Eugene Croom departed this earthly life on March 1, 2012.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012, from 4 until 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, 401 N. William St. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at noon at Atkinson Chapel Church, RR 11 off of Oak Forest Road. Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Croom's delicate temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Croom and Sykes Cemetery for interment rites.

He was the son of Annie Lois Uzzell Croom and the late Matthew James Croom, and was born on Nov. 14, 1957.

He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School, Class of 1976. After graduation, Matt spent several years farming and landscaping alongside his father. He later became a truck driver. In his later years, he worked part-time as a farmer and as a sanitation worker.

He is survived by his three sons, Antony T. Rowe "Captain" of Parkstown, Matthew L. Croom of Goldsboro and Terry M. Croom of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Christie S. Anthony of Tacoma, Wash., and Delaney L. Rozyla of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Tamyla Pasha Rowe, Ji'Shon Matthew Croom, Bryon Alexander Croom, Terryon James Croom, Terry M. Croom, Jr. and Nakiah M. Croom; his mother, Annie L. Croom; four sisters, Annie Isler (Charles), Dorothy Rowe Thompson, Nora Charlene Liggins, and Barbara Jean Waters (Ricky), all of Goldsboro; two uncles, Jesse Uzzell (Earnestine) of Durham, and J.P. Uzzell (Melba) of Goldsboro; one aunt, Mildred Johnson, and one great-aunt Willie Maw Lawson of Richmond, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Mr. Croom's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Croom and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
