CATHY SUTTON HARDY

Cathy, 52, departed this life into the loving arms of her heavenly father at Duke Medical Center after a brief and devastating illness.
A celebration of her life will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Richard Cuddington officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Fred Lauster; a son, Travis Sutton Hardy; her mother, Lorraine Sutton; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Dixie Sutton; a brother, Johnny Sutton; and the father of her children, Mike Hardy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ellsworth Sutton.
In addition, she is survived by a special friend, Reed Bennett, her devoted four-legged friends, Schotzy and Denver; as well as a host of family, friends and co-workers.
Cathy served as budget director for the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and was to retire Feb. 1, 2012, after 32 of service to the state of North Carolina. She had extended her tenure through this legislative session.
She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Knightdale, and was a graduate of Southern Wayne High School and Meredith College.
Among Cathy's many interests, she found special pleasure cultivating and nurturing a wide variety of plants and flowers, which she gladly shared with friends, family and co-workers. She enjoyed sharing her culinary skills as she lovingly prepared delectable treats to the delight of those around her.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
