MOUNT OLIVE -- Donald Ray Herring, 67, 343 Tram Road, passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and savior. Death came peacefully and quietly at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, as he was surrounded by his loving family while at home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. at Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will immediately follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. The Rev. Vance Harrell, the Rev. Doug Bartlett and the Rev. Jeff Dail will officiate at the services.
The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Saturday evening, Feb. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at the residence.
Mr. Herring graduated from North Duplin High School in 1963, and served in the North Carolina National Guard.
He was employed at DuPont in Kinston as a chemical technician, retiring with 34 years of loyal service, after which he became an independent long-distance truck driver.
Born and raised on Tram Road, it was there that he lived the majority of his life.
He was a member of Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as church guitarist, and had served on the church deacon board.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Kaye Kornegay Herring of the home; his four children and their spouses, Darren Ray Herring and Angie Joyner of Mount Olive, Dean Everett Herring and Lynn Royal of Raleigh, Jason Daniel Herring and Laura Jackson Herring of Mount Olive and Candace Leanne Herring Hall and Jimmy Hall of Seven Springs; his beloved grandchildren, Blake Herring and wife, Kristen, Alyssa Herring, Nathan Hall, Daniel Herring, Jack Louis Herring, Jenny Hall, Shelly L. Moose and husband, David, and Al Joyner; a great-granddaughter, Kolbie Rae Herring; two brothers and their wives, the Rev. James Earl Herring and Doris W. Herring of Mount Olive and Billy D. and Glenda W. Herring also of Mount Olive; three sisters and their husbands, Sandra H. Harrell and the Rev. Vance Harrell and Carolyn H. and Ray Bell all of Mount Olive, and Bonnie H. and Doug Lambert of Faison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded him in death include an infant daughter, Beverly Rene Herring; his parents, Louis Everett Herring and Hazel Brock Herring; his two older sisters, Vonda Lee H. Grady and Betty Gray H. Summerlin; and a special cousin, Kathryn D. "Katt" Moody.
