MARY D. EIKENBERRY

RALEIGH -- Mrs. Mary Drucilla "Dru" Aul Eikenberry, 88, recently of Mayview Convalescent Center, passed away peacefully Feb. 7, 2012.
Mrs. Eikenberry was born in Marion, Ind., to Edward and Esther Aul Nov. 26, 1923.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University in 1945. Her accomplishments while at Ball State included president of Gamma Gamma Sorority, assistant editor and special reporter for the Ball State News, secretary of the Inter-sorority Council, member of Alpha Phi Gamma National Honorary Journalistic Fraternity and vice president of the YWCA.
She worked in a defense plant during the Second World War.
Mrs. Eikenberry served professionally as a high school teacher of English and home economics in Indiana, New York and Minnesota, and was a distinguished saleswoman with Belk Department Store in Goldsboro and Raleigh.
She was an accomplished violinist in her youth and an excellent amateur pianist.
She was also the devoted wife of the late Harry Eikenberry for more than 30 years, and a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a generous friend to all in need. She never turned down a request.
Mrs. Eikenberry is survived by her daughter, Karen Eikenberry Glaubiger and husband, Dr. George Glaubiger, of Raleigh; her son, ambassador Karl Eikenberry and wife, Ching, of Stanford, Calif.; her brother, Jim Aul of Birdseye, Ind.; grandchildren, Robert Herring, David Herring, Christie Herring, Sam Glaubiger, Jennifer Yu and Shin Yu; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Aul of Muncie, Ind.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday Feb. 10, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 200 Hillsborough St., Raleigh. She will be laid to rest at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
Friends can also sign the register book at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's St., Thursday.
The family would especially like to thank the entire staff at Mayview Convalescent Center, especially those on station 4, for the excellent care they provided.
