MABEL LOUISE SMITH ZIMMERMAN

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Mabel Louise Smith Zimmerman, 100, Windsor Lane, Martinsville, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center.

A graveside service will be held today, Jan. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville, with the Rev. Clint Spivey officiating.

She was born in Lynchburg, Va., Oct. 16, 1911, to Walter E. and Martha Louise Sprouse Smith.

She was a 1928 National Honor Society graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, and came to Martinsville in 1937.

For several years, she was employed by Kingoffs Jewelers in Martinsville as bookkeeper/accountant.

Mrs. Zimmerman was a longtime member of Broad Street Christian Church, where she was formerly active in the Christian Women's Fellowship.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Zimmerman; three sisters, Ruby S. Bartenfelder, Thelma S. Harris and Annie S. Hamilton; and two brothers, William Smith and Percy S. Smith.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonita Zimmerman and Jo Ann Z. Frost, both of Martinsville; a son, George M. Zimmerman Jr. of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Broad Street Christian Church, 106 Broad St., Martinsville, Va., 24112.

Arrangements are by McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad St. in Martinsville.
