FARMVILLE -- Mr. Jimmie Lee Jones, 81, passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 7, 2011.

A native of Greene County, he was born July 24, 1930, the son of Jasper Lee and Gertrude Murphy Jones.

Following graduation from high school, Mr. Jones began farming, an occupation and love he would remain active in most of his adult life.

Professionally, he served the people of Greene County as the clerk of superior court before assuming the role of executive director of Greene County Farm Service Agency, a position he held for 26 years.

He was an active member of Grimsley Original Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for more than 64 years, as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, as treasurer and clerk and as a member of the choir.

He was also active in Snow Hill Rotary Club, and in general enjoyed working in all capacities to help his fellow man.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Keith Phillips officiating. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Jones, and brothers, Ray Jones, Bobby Jones and Carroll Jones.

His surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Jean Thomas Jones of the home; daughter, Lisa Jones Vail and husband, Luke, of Pikeville; a son, Lee Thomas Jones and wife, Pam, of Farmville; grandchildren, Meagan Stern and husband, Billy, of St. Robert, Mo., and Matthew Jones and special friend, Brook Harrison, of Farmville; great-grandchildren, Kailyn Stern and Colton Stern; and a brother, Tommy Jones of Hookerton.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service Friday evening, and other times at the home, 5145 N.C. 258 North, Farmville.
