ELLEN MARIE SASSER JOHNSON YELVERTON

Mrs. Ellen Marie Sasser Johnson Yelverton was born Sept. 29, 1949, to the late Jesse Sasser "Jack" and Eula Mae Edmundson Sasser.
She attended Wayne County Public Schools, as well as Barton College in Wilson County.
She worked at O'Berry Center for 18 years; Fremont Retirement Center for a number of years; and The Kennedy Baptist Children Home in Kinston.
In 1966, Ellen met and married Mr. Elaster Johnson, and to this union three children were born.
June 14, 2003, she was married to Mr. H.B. Yelverton.
In 2007, she reaffirmed her faith with Gospel Tabernacle Holy Church. She was a faithful member under the leadership of pastor Richard Darden. She was one of the mothers, and worked on the kitchen committee. She attended services faithfully until her health failed.
She leaves to cherish her many memories three children, Darryl Eugene Johnson, Melanie Elaine (Kurt) McLaurin and Elaster Johnson Jr.; two sisters; minister Jessie (Johnnie) Lofton of Fremont and Latalia Barnes; two brothers, Wayne Barnes and Jorand Barnes of Zebulon; six grandchildren, Shanta Jones, Kiara Johnson, Khadesha McLaurin, LaQuita Johnson, Gianna Johnson and Jayden Johnson all of Fremont; two great-grandchildren, Thalontae' Jones and Zyier Bell; four aunts, Flora Martin of Washington, D.C., Naomi Sasser of Selma Minne Green and DeArtha Conyers of Dover, Del.; two uncles, James and Javis Green of Goldsboro; four sisters-in-law, Vonnie Moses, Marjorie Hill, Joan Atkinson and Bonnie Yelverton; two brothers-in-law, Rodger Yelverton and Donald Yelverton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, from 4 to 5:15 p.m. at the funeral home, and from 7 to 8 p.m. at Gospel Tabernacle, 600 S. Sycamore St., Fremont.
A service of remembrance will be held Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Greater Morning Star Church, 705 S. Sycamore St., Fremont. Following the services in the sanctuary, Mrs. Yelverton's delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted to Fremont Cemetery for interment rites.
Mrs. Yelverton's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Johnson, Yelverton and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
