DUDLEY -- Mr. Samuel D. Sutton Sr., 83, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Pete," 103 N. Lincoln Drive, Dudley, departed his earthly life Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

"Pete" was born in Lenoir County April 1, 1928, to the late Mary Joyner and Frank Sutton.

Samuel was educated in the public school system.

Brother Sutton was a faithful member of Saint Matthew Free Will Baptist Church.

Later in his life, Pete met, dated and married the love of his heart, Mary L. Sutton. To this union, three children were born.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Saint Matthew Free Will Baptist Church, 2758 Jenny Lind Road, LaGrange, with pastor Claude D. Sawyer officiating. Interment will follow in Saint Matthew Church Cemetery, 2758 Jenny Lind Road, LaGrange.

A public viewing will be held Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, from 2 to 7 p.m.

"Pete" is survived by his faithful wife of 53 years, Mary Sutton of the home; three children, Samuel Sutton Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Fremont, Stanley Sutton of Dudley and Sabrina McDaniel and husband, Dion, of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Nora Hicks, Hattie Dawson and Mary Roseby; four brothers-in-law, Johnny Joyner, Charlie Joyner and wife, Laura, of Clinton, Md., Cullen Joyner and wife, Marion, of Goldsboro and Frank Joyner of LaGrange; two sisters-in-law, Dollie Best and husband, Sylvanus, of Raleigh and Ruby Jackson of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends at 103 N. Lincoln Drive, Dudley, where it will assemble also one hour prior to the funeral in preparation for the funeral procession.
