SALLIE MAE STALLINGS BROWN

Sallie Mae passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at the Brian Center of Goldsboro surrounded by a host of dedicated, loving caregivers and her son at the age of 83.
The daughter of John Ernest Stallings Sr. and Mamie Champion Stallings, she was born in Franklin County, and graduated from Bunn High School in 1945.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Glenn Edwin Brown, and five of her nine siblings, John E. Stallings Jr., Edmund Harrell Stallings, Elsie S. Oddo, Billy C. Stallings and Bobby C. Stallings.
Sallie is survived by son John "Chris" Brown, his wife, Whitney, and their daughters, Justine and Courtney Barnes.
She also leaves behind four loving, loyal sisters, Mary Louise Sparks, Olivia Inez Owens, Dorothy Marie Sullivan and Lola Pearl Lee, along with her beloved nieces and nephews.
Sallie was additionally blessed with two very special friends and extended family members, Magalene Exum of Dudley and Sally Taylor of Goldsboro, who cared for her deeply.
Sallie married Marvin Ed Brown in 1951, and they raised their two sons on the family farm in the Antioch community.
She was an accountant by trade and worked for Weil's Department Store for 18 years.
Sallie adored family, friends, fall in the mountains and the sweet smell of fresh flowers, and was a diehard Duke and Yankees fan. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player, enjoying her last game with close friends Tuesday.
Sallie was raised by a loving mother, who instilled in her the necessity and simplicity of a strong faith. She was a lifelong Christian and a member of Goldsboro First Baptist Church. Throughout her life, through trials, tragedy and triumph, the one constant in her life was her faith in the risen Lord, Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
A celebration of Sallie's life and the promise of eternal life will be held at Goldsboro First Baptist Church Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Edmundson Family Cemetery in the Antioch Community.
On behalf of his Mama, son Chris Brown would like to thank one amazing family, a caring, compassionate community, Dr. James Atkins and staff at Southeastern Oncology, Dr. Ahktar, Dr. Kemp, Wayne Memorial Hospital, nurse Robin Thaxton, and a very special thank you to all the staff at the Brian Center, especially nurses Courtney, Kathy, Jeannie, Gayle, Karen, and the endless aides who cared for her and her family as their own.
