Mr. Jesse Parks, 303 S. Alabama Ave., passed away Saturday at his residence.

He was born July 24, 1921, in Wayne County, N.C., to Galloway Parks and Ada Wooten Parks.

He was educated in the Wayne County Public School System.

He left Goldsboro and moved to Baltimore, Md. There he married the late Beatrice M. Parks. To this union was born a son, the late Jesse L. Parks Jr.

Following his adolescent years, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge.

He then relocated to Pittsburgh, Pa., where he worked and retired from Pittsburgh Steel Co.

He owned and operated a cab company until his health failed in 2007.

Later, he returned to Goldsboro, and lived with his devoted nephew, Willie Parks.

He leaves to mourn his passing a sister, Clara (Eugene) Lewis of Baltimore, Md., and two sisters-in-law, Dora Parks and Narcissa Parks. He also leaves to cherish his memory a devoted nephew, Willie D. Parks; a devoted cousin, the Rev. Kizzie Core; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A service of remembrance will be held Saturday at noon at E.M. Matthews Life Celebration Chapel. Interment rites and committal services will continue Friday Sept. 9, 2011, at Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he will rest beside his lovely wife. Burial will be Sept. 9 at noon in Pittsburgh, Pa.
