WILLIAM MCKINLEY EDWARDS

William McKinley Edwards, 76, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Kinley," 103 Banks Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., departed his life Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.

"Kinley" was born in Snow Hill, N.C., March 23, 1935, to the late Ruth Dawson Edwards and James Battle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Geraldine Daniels Edwards, and his son, Kenneth Ray Edwards.

Many years ago, he dedicated his life to our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, and became a member of White Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at 11 a.m. in White Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, 2261 Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, N.C., with elder Dorian R. Suggs officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, 825 U.S. 117 North, Goldsboro, N.C.

A public viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 6 p.m. Also, a wake will be conducted with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. to receive friends and other family members.

"Kinley" leaves to mourn his memory six daughters, JoAnn Edwards Maddox (Miller Johnson) of Charlotte, N.C., Earlene Edwards (Kirby Hamilton) of Greensboro/Goldsboro, N.C., Ruby Edwards Roberts (Edward Roberts) of Charlotte, N.C., Jennifer Edwards Jenkins (Mal Jenkins) of Charlotte, N.C., Vonda Edwards Opoku (Anthony Opoku) of Gastonia, N.C., and Dianna Wooten (Randy Poole Sr.) of Bronx, N.Y.; a foster daughter, Octavia Daniels Muhammad (Hamin Muhammad) of Goldsboro, N.C.; a son, William Terry Edwards, of Woodbridge, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gladys Edwards Calvert of Snow Hill, N.C., and Millie Best and Colleen Best both of Goldsboro, N.C.; a brother, Chester Edwards of Snow Hill, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends at 103 Banks Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., where it will also assemble one hour prior to the funeral in preparation for the funeral procession.
