JOHN MILTON SULLIVAN

PIKEVILLE -- Mr. John Milton Sullivan, 73, Pikeville, N.C., in the community of Nahunta, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, at WakeMed in Raleigh, N.C., surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 24, 1937, to the late Jesse and Flossie Shirley Sullivan in Johnston County, N.C.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Brooks Sullivan, and a sister, Doris Sullivan.

John worked for Wayne Memorial Hospital for more than 13 years before retiring.

He also was an avid produce farmer most of his life.

He was longtime member of Nahunta Volunteer Fire Department, and retired from the department.

John loved people, and had a personality that never knew a stranger.

John touched so many people in his 73 years of life, and his legacy will be carried on through his memories shared by all.

He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, companion and a friend to so many who knew him.

John left behind to cherish his memories his companion, Geneva Sauls of the home; a son, Brent Sullivan and his wife, Lisa, of Pikeville, N.C.; a daughter, Bethany Sullivan of Raleigh, N.C.; a granddaughter, Anna Sullivan of Pikeville, N.C.; two sisters, Patsy Sullivan Talton of Pikeville, N.C., and Rose Sullivan Minshew of Four Oaks, N.C.; a stepson, Alan Sauls of Pikeville, N.C.; three stepgrandchildren, Joshua, Lindsay and Destiny; and several nieces and nephews who meant so much to him.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, in Minshew-Coley Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Stanley Kirby and the Rev. Jimmy Millard officiating.

The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.

At other times the family will receive friends at the residence, 302 Fields Road, Pikeville, N.C.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011. at Sullivan Family Cemetery, Hinnant-Edgerton Road in Kenly, N.C.

Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions may be made to charity of one's choice.
