EVELYN WIGGINS JENKINS

ALEXIS -- Evelyn Wiggins Jenkins, 80, Alexis, died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Stanley Total Living Center.

She was a native of Wayne County, N.C., and the daughter of the late James Madison Wiggins and Verdie Beatrice Sanderson Wiggins.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, with the Rev. Bill James officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to the service, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

Mrs. Jenkins retired from Western Auto, and was a member of First Assembly of God, a charter member of Rankin Lake Baptist Church, which started in her home, a choir member and a member of Lucille Tatum Center with the "Union Club."

Survivors include her son, Roland Eugene Jenkins and wife, Tae, of Gastonia; daughters, Lenda Johnson of Alexis and Sharon Boyd and husband, Danny, of Gastonia; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Clifton Wiggins and wife, Dean, of Greenville, S.C., Donald Lee Wiggins and wife, Lola, of Fort Mill, S.C., Ronnie Thomas Wiggins and wife, Sandra, of Florida and Bobby Wayne Wiggins of Gastonia; sisters, Shirley Ann Howell and husband, Julian, of Greenville, S.C., and Brenda Faye McCombs and husband, Don, of Dallas, N.C.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Clayton Jenkins; a grandchild; sister, Diane Davis; and son-in-law, Darwin Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Billy Jenkins, Charles Jenkins, Will James, Shane Boyd, Billy Smith, William Smith and Roger Davis, Jr.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38150-1942
