LEWIS JACKSON "JACK" PEOPLES SR. (RETIRED LT. COL. USAF)

Lewis Jackson "Jack" Peoples Sr. (Retired Lt. Col. USAF), 89, passed away Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. Inurn-ment will follow at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Ox-ford, with full military honors.

A native of South Hill, Va., he was the son of the late Edward Gregory and Leah Carolyn Peoples and the widower of Marian Harrison Peoples. Jack was a command pilot in the United States Air Force serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Jack is survived by his son, George R. "Bob" Peoples and wife, Anne, of Hillsborough; daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Harrison Peoples of Newport News, Va.; daughter-in-law, Pamela J. Peoples of Wilmington; granddaughters, Heather Wray Peoples of Asheville, Hilary Leigh Peoples of Wilmington; sister, Josephine Peoples Osgood of Asheville.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Jack was preceded in death by a son, Lewis "Jack" Peoples Jr.; his sister, Margaret Erwin Peoples Ehringhaus; and his brother, Edward Gregory Peoples Jr.

The family will receive friends today, July 10, 2011, from 3 until 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
