MOUNT OLIVE -- Harold Ray Vinson, 60, went to be with his Lord Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Ray was born in Wayne County Nov. 4, 1950, to the late Harold Vinson and Verdie Mae Stroud Vinson.

He was employed for many years with Caswell Center in Kinston.

Ray enjoyed going hunting and fishing, but always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends while hunting, as well as arrowhead hunting.

Ray was a member of the North Carolina Sheriff's Association and the National Rifle Association.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

Ray is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cindy M. Vinson; his children, Thomas Ray Vinson and Rebecca Vinson Pope and husband, Anthony; his grandchildren, Bella Marie Vinson and Landon Ray Pope; his sisters, Sue Nickle and husband, Nick, of Mount Olive and Jean Oates of Sampson County; his mother-in-law, Vennie Lee Moore of Goldsboro; and several cousins, including a special cousin, David Vinson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Ray Vinson.

With loving gratitude, the family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Atkins and staff and family and friends for the love and support that was shown to him during his declining health.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at his home, 1747 Zion Church Road, Mount Olive.
