Zora Dean Hodges Manley, 82, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Wake Medical Center.

Zora was born in Hagan, Ga., March 16, 1929, to the late J. Carl Hodges and Lillian Vickers Hodges.

She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and Trinity University, where she received her master's degree in economics.

Zora was married for almost 60 years to Col. Richard Ernest Manley.

She will be remembered by her husband as a devoted military wife and mother, who always moved and took care of her family needs.

Zora was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church and the Daughters of The American Revolution, where she served many years as the chaplain. She was also a member of the Retired Officers Wives Club.

Zora had a great passion for helping children, and for many years served as a teacher's assistant with the Wayne County School System.

She was an avid bridge player, and also enjoyed reading a good book.

Zora served many years on the board of the Wayne County Library.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 25, 2011, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, followed by her funeral service at 11:30 a.m., with Dr. Bob Fulkerson officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park

In addition to her husband, Zora is survived by her children, Roger Manley and wife, Theadora Brack, of Durham and Mark Manley and wife, Elizabeth, of Cincinnati, Ohio; her grandchildren, Mark David Manley and Margaret Dean Manley; her sister, Polly Hodges of Ormond Beach, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Marion Milam; her nieces, Pat Ware, Barbara Davis and Mahala Hart and husband, Joe; and her nephews, Bill, Carl and Sam Hodges.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, J. Carl "Jake" Hodges Jr., and her sister, Sarah Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church at 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
