IRA DANIEL RHODES

Ira Daniel Rhodes, 91, died Thursday evening at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the Rev. Marcus Riggs and Mr. Rudolph "Rudy" West Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. at Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens.

Born May 10, 1920, in Johnston County to the late Charlie Rufus and Smithie Guin Rhodes, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Lucille Edwards Rhodes; a daughter, Eldean Rhodes Pierce; a grandson, Brent West; brothers, Jesse Rhodes, Bobby Rhodes, J. L. Rhodes and Billy Rhodes; and sisters, Mary Overbee, Bertjha Person, Lillie Sutton and Flonnie Bell Rhodes.

Mr. Rhodes was a US Army veteran of WWII where he served in Tunisia and Sicily, Italy. He was also a 60-plus year member of the Bizzell Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are his son, Ira Daniel "Danny" Rhodes Jr. of Princeton; daughters, Nova Rhodes of Goldsboro and Rebecca Rhodes West and husband, Rudolph "Rudy" West Jr., of Fremont; sisters, Susie Brock of Smithfield, Smithie Tobin of Wallace and Imogene Swinson of Henderson; son-in-law, Hal Pierce of Winterville; four grandchildren, Mae Panza and husband, Matt, of Rosewood, Ira Daniel Rhodes III and wife, Michelle, of Saratoga, Bert West and wife, Stephanie, of Sharon, S.C., and Bryan West and wife, Lisa, of Fremont; granddaughter-in-law, Melissa West, of Fremont and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Bizzell Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, 4700 Bizzell Grove Church Road, Princeton, NC 27569.
