GEORGE WALKER DAVIS SR.

July 4, 1925-June 12, 2011

George Walker Davis Sr., 700 Long Leaf Ave., quietly and peacefully joined his Lord June 12, 2011.

He was born to the late Ed Davis and Lillie Mae Mitnaul Davis July 4, 1925. He was the oldest of 11 beautiful and blessed children.

He received his education in the Lenoir County School System.

He worked and retired as a truck driver for more than 35 years at Best Distributing Co.

He was talented and gifted with many skills, including gardening and barbecuing. His passion was working in his yard and beautifying it.

He attended and joined Simro Free Will Baptist Church at an early age, along with his siblings.

He later met and married Agnes Virginia Griffin Davis, and to this blessed and happy union seven children were born. He was a loving, caring and witty father and grandfather, who loved his children and grandchildren. He would do whatever he could for his family.

He continued to serve faithfully in Simro Free Will Baptist Church. As time progressed, he made his walk with Jesus closer and personal by becoming a co-founder of The Gospel Friendship Free Will Baptist Church.

After the death of his first wife, he later married Meta Supel Davis Aug. 17, 2001. They continued to exhibit the love for Christ by attending many worship services together.

He loved good preaching, good singing and good music. He praised the Lord by showing a big smile, padding his feet and saying his favorite words "Thank you, Jesus!"

He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Davis; mother, Lillie Mae Davis; wife, pastor Agnes Virginia Davis; four brothers, Eddie Davis, O.T. Davis, Willie Lee Davis and Henry Lee Davis; and a sister, Lillie Louise Best.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Meta Davis; two sons, George (Judine) Davis and Dennis (Ellen) Davis; five daughters, Edna Gardner, pastor Virginia (Travis) Best, Ruby (Gerald) Davis, Laura (Craig) Sembly and Sonya (Darius) Faison; two brothers, Oscar (Beatrice) Davis and Jones (Elaine) Davis; three sisters, Louisa Newborn, Elnora Phillips and Mae Bell Jackson; as well as four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, five stepchildren, 26 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A viewing will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Simro Free Will Baptist Church. Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Davis' physical sheath, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Old Mill Cemetery for interment rites. For it is in this earthly consign, that Deacon Davis will remain until that glorious day when time will be no more and the children of God will forever be with the master.

Services of compassion and distinguished class are rendered by E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
