SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Bessie Corbett Ham, 96, passed away Thursday evening, April 7, 2011, surrounded by her loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 10, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with the Rev. Danny Hamm officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

A native of Greene County, she was born Oct. 20, 1914, the daughter of the late John and Johnnie Moore Corbett. She was an avid homemaker as a wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Ham received great pleasure out of helping and cooking for others. She was an active member of Harrell's Chapel FWB Church and was involved in her church and its various activities until her health began to decline.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Ham; son, James H. Ham; daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Mewborn; son-in-law, Joseph Lee Mewborn; sisters, Clyde, Frances, Dixie and Nellie; and brothers, David, Woodrow, Rock, Lyn, Kirby and Jimmie.

Her surviving family includes her sons, John Roger Ham and wife, Sandra, of Raleigh, Donald Ham and wife, Anne, of Goldsboro, and Ronald Ham and wife, Linda, of Kinston; daughter-in-law, Jean Edwards Ham of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Dennis Mewborn and wife, Bobbie Jo, Dr. J. Harvey Ham and wife, Gail, Gail Mewborn Knapp and husband, Ken, Melody Ham Ormond and husband, Ricky, Sandee Ham Blankenship and husband, Alan, Rhonda Ham Greene and husband, Kent, Tracey Ham Grady and husband, Mike, Stephanie Ham Letchworth and husband, Dana, and Donna Jo Ham Lewis and husband, Chad; great-grandchildren, Heather Harris McDaniel and husband, Jason, Shane Harris, Brandon and Aleah Ham, Kyle McLawhorn, Blythe and Braxton Greene, Landon, Garrett and Whitlee Letchworth, Drew and Jackson Grady, Abi and Lexton Lewis; great great-grandchildren, Caden and Alexa McDaniel; a brother Russell Corbett and wife, Joyce of Snow Hill; and a sister, Margaret C. Ham of Snow Hill.
