MOUNT OLIVE -- Ralph Douglas "Doug" Whitfield, 60, 2811 N.C. 55 West, Mount Olive, died Sunday evening, April 3, 2011, at home.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 7, at Thunder Swamp Church from 1 to 3 p.m., with funeral services at 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
Friends and family are also being received at 1295 Thunder Swamp Road in Mount Olive (the current home of his son, Alex, and the former home of his deceased grandparents).
Doug was a farmer and was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.
He was the son of the late Ralph A. and Lois Jones Whitfield.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sallie Jackson Whitfield of the home; a son, David Alexander "Alex" Whitfield of Mount Olive; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Mike Haney of Oak Hill, Va., and Jane and the Rev. Marty Warren of Vanceboro; several aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.
