WALTER ALEXANDER ZIEMER

Died March 30, 2011

Walter Alexander Ziemer, 81, died Wednesday, March 30, at Kitty Askins in Goldsboro, N.C.

Walter was born in Ogden, Utah, to the late Alexander Ziemer and Arcadia Carver Ziemer.

He played defensive end college football for the University of Arizona, and received an Air Force scholarship to practice dentistry at the University of San Francisco Dental School.

During the Korean War in Okinawa, he served in the United States Air Force. He practiced dentistry in California for more than 40 years, and retired to Goldsboro in 2003.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Goldsboro.

He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hiker, fisherman and camper.

Visitation will be held at First Christian Church fellowship hall Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Fred Clarke and the Rev. Penny Ziemer officiating.

Dr. Walter Ziemer is survived by his wife, Susan Campbell Ziemer; his children, Carey Ziemer of Goldsboro and wife, Penny, Stephen Ziemer of Norco, Calif., and wife Lynn, Mary Melinda (Mindy) Ziemer and husband, Rafael Kapelinski, of London, England; grandchildren, Stephen Ziemer, Amanda Owens, Carolyn Ziemer and Laura Ziemer; great-grandchild Sierra Ziemer; and a sister, Derry Ziemer Cartwright of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Elizabeth Williams Ziemer, and a brother, Charles Ziemer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Christian Church, Goldsboro, or the Family YMCA, Goldsboro.
