WILLIAM 'BILL' SMITH

Nov. 7, 1927-March 22, 2011

William Nelson "Bill" Smith, 83, died Tuesday at the Brian Center in Goldsboro.

Born in Duplin County, he was the son of the late Sylvester Othnie Smith and the late Sallie Casey Smith.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the National Association of Atomic Veterans and the Golden "K" Kiwanis Club.

Bill was a poultry farmer, and an employee of G&M Sales.

He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and the Samaritan Sunday school class.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terry Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Family members will greet friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, and at other times will be at the home.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Gene Rose Holmes Smith; four sons, Christopher W. Smith and wife, Jessie S. Smith, of Goldsboro, Gene Nelson Smith and wife, Cynthia P. Smith of Garner, Jeffrey H. Smith and wife, Sherry B. Smith, of Dudley and Clayborn P. Smith and wife, Terri S. Smith, of Concord; brother, Mark Gilbert Smith and wife, Janie Smith, of Fayetteville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren, William B. Smith, Jacob N. Smith, Sarah E. Smith, Joshua H. Smith, Jordan M. Smith, Grace K. Smith and Cooper P. Smith.
