Betty Anderson Travis, 87, went to be with our Lord March 14 just before midnight at Duke University Medical Center.

Born May 8, 1923, in Goldsboro to the late James William and Lillie Crocker Anderson, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Chester Travis Sr.; her sister, Maggie Anderson Belk; and brother, James "Hank" Anderson Jr.

Betty was a devoted newspaper carrier for 17 years with The Goldsboro News-Argus.

Betty's greatest joys in life were her family and her many church and wide array of friends. She did not know a stranger.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with elder Jonathan B. Edwards Sr. and elder Zephaniah Jackson officiating. A private graveside service will be held for the family at a later time.

Family members will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times will be at her home.

Betty is survived by her children, Bill Travis, Linda Potter and husband, Gayle, Donald Travis Jr. and wife, Debbie, Wendell Travis and wife, Pam, and Simone' Travis all of Goldsboro, N.C.; her grandchildren, Rhonda P. Stone, Ronald Potter, Dion P. Freels, Bill Travis Jr., Pamela LaPierre, Hunter Travis and Taylor Travis; stepgrandchildren, Jackie Garrett, Jessica Hayes, Jennifer Phillips and Terra Calahan; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and she also leaves behind her treasured pets, Buddy, Cember and Barney.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was an exceptional lady loved by many.

Betty was an active member of Goldsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church for 45 years, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 45, in Goldsboro.
