WILLOW SPRING -- The Rev. Alvis Leon Hawley, 79, 7625 James Austin Road, passed away Sunday.

A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late William H. and Amelia Austin Hawley.

During his 50-year ministry, he was pastor of numerous churches within the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist denomination.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Angier Fellowship Church located on Tippet Road, Angier. Private burial will be Friday at Austin Family Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Janice Gregory Hawley; children, Sharon H. Hart of Willow Spring, Shelton Leon Hawley and wife, Shirley, of Angier, Cindy H. Jones and husband, Ricky, of Newton Grove and Jennifer H. Pollard of Willow Spring; grandchildren, Shannon Burch and husband, Danny Burch Jr., Jonathan Hart and wife, Natalie, Jared Stone and wife, Amanda, all of Willow Spring, Jessica Hawley and Loren Jackson both of Clinton, Chantel Wilson and husband, Jefferson, and Arlon Jones all of Newton Grove; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, the Rev. Hawley was predeceased by his brother, William Andrew Hawley.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church Thursday night, and at other times at the home.
