LEROY MARTIN

LaGRANGE -- Leroy Martin, 75, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at his home.

A service of remembrance will be held Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Hobgood officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Leroy was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Wayne County to the late John Fred Martin and Octavia Goff Martin. Leroy was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Martin Berger. Leroy had a great love for his country and proudly served 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a master sergeant. Following retirement from the military, Leroy served his community as city executive with Wachovia Bank, where he retired with 20 years of service. Leroy was a lifetime Original Free Will Baptist and was an active member of LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church. Leroy was a member of the American Legion. He had a great love for the outdoors where he enjoyed farming, gardening and camping. Leroy was a morning regular and enjoyed time with the Bojangles breakfast group.

Leroy is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Joyce Harrelson Martin; three daughters, Becky Martin Berger and husband, Fred, of LaGrange, Pam Martin Herring and husband, David, of LaGrange, Sherry Martin Price and husband, Michael, of Mount Olive; six grandchildren, Nikki Sasser and husband, Brooks, Lauran Herring, Dave Herring, Elizabeth Price, Zachary Price and Justin Price; two special brothers-in-law, Vernon Clemmons and Harvey Harrelson; along with a number of special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the service of remembrance and at other times they will be at the home. Memorials may be made to the Kyle Martin Berger Scholarship, c/o BB&T, 104 East Washington St., LaGrange, NC 28551, or LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 802 South Caswell St., La Grange, NC 28551.

Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, LaGrange.
