MOUNT OLIVE -- Peggy Garner Smith, 1906 N.C. Highway 55 West, died suddenly Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

There will be visitation with the family in the Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church Fellowship Hall Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1174 Old Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive. Interment will be private on Saturday in Maplewood Cemetery with the pastor Vance Harrell officiating.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years Relma M. "Smitty" Smith, three sons, Relma M. "Buster" Smith (Rosamond) of Faison, Mac Temus Smith (Gracie) of Robersonville, Michael Owen Smith (Tammie) of Miami, Fla., two daughters, Barbara Ann McLawhon (Ricky) and Amy Smith Maggard, both of Mount Olive, 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bobby Garner (Virginia) of Seven Springs, Ray Garner (Edna) of Kinston and Kenneth Garner (Patricia) of LaGrange; and her constant companion, "Misty."

She was born in Duplin County and was preceded in death by her parents Beulah Barwick Garner and Mack Daniel Garner, a son, Stephen Clark Smith, sister, Louise Garner Davis and a brother, Howell "Buddy" Garner. Mrs. Smith was a member of Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church and was very active in the Ladies Auxillary. She retired with 35 years of service with her husband at Smitty's Chicken and Burgers in Mount Olive.

The family requested that memorials be made to Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1174 Old Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365.
