RUBY C. BLACKMON

Ruby Cox Blackmon, 96, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Smithfield surrounded by her family.

Ruby was born in Wayne County May 17, 1914, to the late Ira Rufus Cox and Catherine Johnson Cox. She was married to the late Hugh Boyette Blackmon.

Ruby was a charter member of Adamsville Baptist Church, and taught Sunday school for more than 54 years.

For many years, Ruby worked as a house mother for Kennedy Homes.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Adamsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Todd Wiggins and the Rev. Ted Mamby officiating. Interment will be in Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ruby is survived by her sisters, Sarah Connor of Raleigh and Gladys McCullen of Goldsboro, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Laura Cox, Bessie Blackmon and Mary Reece, and her brothers, Walter Cox, Leslie Cox, Albert Cox, Bill Cox, Charlie Cox and Ira Cox Jr.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kennedy Home Educational Center at 2529 Cedar Dell Lane, Kinston, N.C., 28504-9113, or Adamsville Baptist Church at 1302 N Berkeley Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service at the church.
