Carrie Clark Artis James peacefully left her temporary home on earth Nov. 25, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.

The seventh of 10 children, Carrie was born to the late Daniel Franklin Clark Sr. and Mary Yelverton Clark May 25, 1921.

She graduated from Dillard High School in 1938, and received her bachelor's degree in education from Winston-Salem Teacher's College in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 1947.

She was the matriarch of the Clark family.

Those who are left to cherish precious memories of her life and love are daughter, Terry A. Maxwell of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; son, Charles Q. Artis (Marie) of Orangeburg, S.C.; grandchildren, Theresa Nicole Maxwell of Atlanta, Ga.; and Joi Gabrielle Artis and Nicholas Charles Hamberg Artis of Orangeburg, S.C.; sister, Mary Clark Williams of Bridgeport, Conn.; special caregivers, Alfred and Diane Williams Watts (niece), Bobby and Colette H. Sherard (niece), Anne Clark Hurrey (niece), Joyce Broadhurst and LaKisha Coley; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A special caregiver, John Franklin Clark, nephew, preceded her in death.

A Mass of the celebration of the Christian funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Saint Mary's Catholic Church at 1000 N. Jefferson St. The rite of committal will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 7 p. m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p. m. for a vigil service and to receive friends
