Mae Warrick Shumate, 91, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Born in Grantham Township of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late William Emmett and Maybell Bordeaux Warrick, and was married to the late Harry Jones Shumate Jr.

She attended Grantham Schools, and relocated into Goldsboro and, while still a teenager, worked as a secretary at Shumate Funeral Home.

She served as vice president and manager of Clinard's Fashions for more than 35 years .

A member of First Baptist Church for more than 55 years, she was a member of the Dorcas/Fidelis Sunday school class.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Phillips and the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Harold Batten of Dudley; grandchildren, Suzanne Faulk of Mount Olive, Philip and Kelly Faulk and Ven and Ashley Faulk all of Dudley; great grandchildren, Savanna, Wilson and Mae Mae's "extra special" Madison Brown, Patricia Diane, Emma Ashley, James Venable III, Julia Helene and Susannah Faith Faulk, Colby, Madison and Dakota Leary and Jimmy Jackson Faulk; "adopted" grandson, Daniel Harrell of Goldsboro; sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and J. Waldo Smith of Hood Swamp community, Edna Breshears of Goldsboro and Tom Knowles of Autryville; brother and sister-in-law, Haywood Warrick of Concord and Evelyn Warrick of Autryville; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Shirley Shumate and Ed Shumate all of Goldsboro; many, many loving nieces and nephews; the staff of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Parkside Florist; and her loving caretakers, Polly, Nancy, Amanda and Ernestine.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Helen Kornegay Faulk; sisters, Elizabeth Overby, Pauline Holloway, Hazel Gooding, Virginia Rannette Howell and Shirley Knowles; and brothers, Leslie "Toot" Warrick and Claudie Warrick; and her special friend, Gene Allen.

The family will greet friends at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at other times at 2876 U.S. 117, Dudley, N.C.

Flowers are welcomed, and the family suggests that memorial gifts be directed to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Emmaus Baptist Church, 714 Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, N.C., 28333.
