KATHLEEN M. BRATTEN

Kathleen M. Bratten, 78, a 47-year resident of Grifton, met her savior Nov. 13, 2010 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services will be held at Mt. Calvary FWB Church, Hookerton, on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Marcum officiating. Private interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Estates, Grifton.

She was born in Langston, Ala., Jackson County, Jan. 28, 1932, to David and Mamie Matchen. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jack Matchen; her husband, Johnnie Joseph Bratten Sr.; and son, Johnnie Joseph Bratten, Jr. She is survived by four daughters, Anna B. Jones, Teresa B. Patrick and husband, Jeff, Vera B. Smith and husband, Guy, and Robin B. Spence and husband, Joe; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by very special friends, Clyda Coward, Vivian Coombe, Bonnie Windom, Vickie Marcum, Carol Garris and Dianna Lowe.

She was a member of Mount Calvary FWB Church, Hookerton, for 35 years. She attended faithfully and held great conviction and support for the morals and values that her church and the Christian Academy uphold. She was a member of Young at Heart and also of Grifton Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to Mt. Calvary FWB Church/Academy or Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Arrangements are entrusted to Farmer Funeral Service, Ayden.
