MOUNT OLIVE -- Alma Jean W. Wells, 76, of the Rones Chapel community, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at 2 p.m., at Rones Chapel Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Hill officiating. Burial will follow at the Wells-Southerland Family Cemetery in Mount Olive. The family will receive friends today, Nov. 14, 2010, from 5 until 7 p.m., at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, and at other times at the home in Rones Chapel.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Wells and her husband, Gene Lilley Jr., of Mount Olive; and Kimberly Wells Lewis, and her husband, Tim, of Topsail Island; a son, Jim Wells Jr. of Mount Olive; and a sister, Geraldine Brewer of Mount Olive. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Sydney Nicole Wells, James E. "Jim" Wells of Illinois, Jessica Olivia Lewis and Preston Thomas Lewis; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Russell Whitfield Sr., and Ruby Fields Whitfield; her husband, James E. Wells Sr.; and a brother, Jimmy Whitfield.

Jean, as many who knew her will affirm, held family as the center of her life. Listening, helping, and supporting her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews came naturally to her. Jean tirelessly supported her church with studying and teaching the adult Sunday school class, with committee membership, and with love shown to the pastors and children of the church. Her home was always open for meals and holidays. Her many friends became extended family who will tell you her home was an extension of God's love from her to them. She will truly be missed by many.

Flowers are welcome or memorials can be made to the Rones Chapel Methodist Church.
