MOUNT OLIVE -- Glenn Stuart Weaver died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wayne County June 16, 1926, he was the first child of Gertha and Clara Denning Weaver of Grantham.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 24, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro, and interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park, with Dr. Jerry Burton of Mill Creek Christian Church officiating, assisted by Dr. Michael Price of First Christian Church in Washington and Ray Briley.

The family will receive friends Sunday at Seymour Funeral Home starting at 2:30 p.m.

Dr. Weaver had a 40-year career with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from 1951 to 1991. He pastored four churches in 40 years: Logan County Unity Christian Churches (three churches) in Kentucky, West Side Christian Church in Portsmouth, Va., First Christian Church of Bluefield, W. Va., and First Christian Church of Washington, N.C., where he retired in 1991 after 181/2 years, the record in pastor tenure for that church.

He was at different times president of the Christian Church in West Virginia, on the board of trustees of his old alma mater, Atlantic Christian College (Barton College), and a member of the general board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for six years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Anderson Weaver; parents, Gertha and Clara Weaver; and brothers, Howard Wright Weaver and Ralph Weaver.

Surviving are a son, Stuart Wright Weaver; two sisters, Doris Weaver and Hazel W. Ballard; and brothers, Donald, Carl, Roy, James, Charles and Russell Weaver. In addition, he leaves a caring sister-in-law, Cleo Anderson Grady.
