A beautiful angel went to heaven Tuesday morning, Oct. 19, 2010. Rachel Elizabeth Tedder Gay Brown 90, went to be with her Lord and savior. She was a resident of Mount Olive Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Rachel was born June 24, 1920, in Rock Ridge.

She was a longtime resident of Black Creek, and a member of Wilson Primitive Baptist Church.

Rachel worked as a nurse in the nursery at Wilson Memorial Hospital for more than 25 years, and retired from there in 1982.

She is survived by her seven children, Virgie Davis, Peggy Sasser, Thomas Preston and wife, Connie, Carolyn Love, Patsy Rigsbee, Linda Weaver and husband, Johnny, and Ray Preston. Rachel is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by seven brothers and sisters, El Tedder, Rose Lewis, Georgie Lamm, Jean Gunter, Becky Bowling, Joanne Ivey, Judy Bardin, and two special sisters-in-law, Joyce Tedder and Jean Lamm.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, George and Rosa Tedder; her husband of 44 years, Thomas Preston Gay; her husband of 15 years, Bennie Brown; four brothers and sisters; and a grandchild.

Services will be held at Howell Funeral Home, 1500 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro, Friday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m., with pastor Doug Bartlett and pastor Jeff Dail officiating.

Visitation will follow the graveside at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Family and friends are welcome afterward at 105 Parks Drive in Pikeville, the home of Johnny and Linda Weaver.
