VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Mary Alice Stevens Southerland, 87, Vero Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at her home.
Mrs. Southerland was born June 25, 1923, in Goldsboro, Wayne County, N.C., to the late Jim Everett Stevens and Amanda Mitchell Stevens.
She moved her family and business, L.E. Southerland Trucking, to Vero Beach in 1959 from her place of birth.
She loved her children, grandchildren, friends, relatives, gardening, travel and hometown.
Ray, Buddy and Mary Alice often had gatherings at the "garage" for family and friends. "Ya'll Come" was their invitation.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Ray Southerland and fiancée', Shirley; her daughter, Jean Branan and husband, Mike; her sister, Ophelia Blackman; her grandchildren, Michael, Ashlee, Jared and Natalie; and a great-grandson.
She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Leonard E. "Buddy" Southerland in 1996 and her brothers, William D. "Bill" Stevens and James D. "Sam" Stevens.
