ESTHER TILTON WHITLEY

Esther Tilton Whitley, 86, formerly of Goldsboro, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at the Brian Center in Clayton.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, from 10 until 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church followed by a service of remembrance at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. The Rev. John Dutton will officiate. Entombment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Whitley was born in Wayne County on Jan. 12, 1924, to the late George Tilton and Mary Willoughby Tilton. She was married to W.C. "Pete" Whitley who preceded her in death on June 22, 1992. Mrs. Whitley was a member of Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for the pre-school class for many years and was a member of the church's women's circle group. She was a caring, loving parent whose primary goal was the happiness and security of her family. Mrs. Whitley also supported her husband in many of his business and community activities.

Mrs. Whitley is survived by her sons, Bill Whitley of Wilmington and Chris Whitley and wife, Susan, of Clayton; her daughter, Whit June and husband, Charlie, of Ayden; and her sister, Sally Anderson of Goldsboro; and numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Howell, Lois Howell, Mary Mitchell, and her brother, Thurman Tilton. Also, she was preceded in death by her half-sisters, Ila Forehand and Bertha Godwin and brother, David Creech.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church, 2803 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, NC 27534.
