SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Bettie Jean Watson Kearney, 83, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 13, 2010, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Elder J.M. Mewborn officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

A native of Lenoir County, she was born March 31, 1927, the daughter of Walter Festus and Maude Edwards Watson. Following marriage to her husband of 66 years, Jock Kearney, Greene County became her home. She worked for many years with J.P. Stevens Company managing the fabric and décor outlet and continued in that capacity until the late 1990s retiring from the former Will's Outlet of Snow Hill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; LeRoy Watson, Albert Faust, Elizabeth Leggett, Edna Rouse and Helen Faust.

Her surviving family includes her beloved husband, Joshua L. "Jock" Kearney; sons, Roger L. Kearney of Snow Hill and Barry G. Kearney and wife, Ann, of Ayden; grandchildren, Michael Kearney and wife, Rebecca, Stephen Kearney and wife, Emily, and Christy Stroud and husband, Jeremy, all of Snow Hill; great-grandchildren, Sydney Dail, Adam Kearney, Ava Kearney, Brittany Anderson, Joshua Anderson and Jesse Stroud; a sister, Thelma Proctor of Durham; special friends, Dennis Anderson of Farmville and Judy Sugg of Snow Hill; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 1947 Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill. Online condolences may be expressed at www.taylor-tyson.com.
