RUTH ELIZABETH KING MURPHY

FAISON -- Ruth Elizabeth King Murphy, 93, passed away peacefully Friday at Mary Gran Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Goshen New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Stanley King and Rev. Stevie King officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro. Visitation will be held today from 6 until 8 p.m. at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove. At other times, the family will receive friends and relatives at the home at 7959 Suttontown Road.

Mrs. Murphy was a native of Sampson County and a faithful member of Goshen New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Clayton Murphy and parents, the Rev. Henry C. King and Donnie King.

She is survived by her children, Shirley M. Lee of Virginia, Clayton Murphy and wife, Betty, of Faison, Jeanette M. Baker and husband, James Lewis of Newton Grove, Hetty M. Whitfield of Mount Olive, Joyce M. Newcomb of Mount Olive, Margaret M. Nelms and husband Grover of Rocky Mount, Janice Lynn M. Weeks of Faison, and Ann M. Crawford and husband, Murray of Faison; son-in-law, Ray Harwell Sr., of Damon, Texas; two brothers, John King, Moses King and wife, Dean, of Faison, and a sister-in-law, Betty King; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Charles Murphy and a daughter, Carolyn M. Harwell of Damon, Texas; two sisters, Dorcas Jackson and Esther Deaver; two brothers, Samuel and Joseph King; three sons-in-law, Randy Lee, Ruffie Newcomb and James "J.G." Whitfield.
