PIKEVILLE -- Betty Ruth Howell Bunn, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.

A service to celebrate Betty Ruth's life will be held at Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 1080 Gurley Dairy Road, on Monday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Sherman Dilley officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment in the church cemetery will be held Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m.

Betty Ruth was born in Johnston County on Oct. 5, 1938, to the late Edward Rudolph and Sallie Ann Howell. She graduated Nahunta High in 1957 and attended Crumpler Business School in Goldsboro. After raising her three girls, she worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator with Nor-Am/Agr Evo until her retirement in 1995.

Betty Ruth will be remembered for her love of family and her strong faith. She was a caring, loving wife, parent, and grandparent whose primary goal was the happiness and security of her family. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church. She was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and felt that nothing was impossible when one placed her trust in God. Her faith gave her the courage to face anything in life.

Betty Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clifton Ray Howell.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, David Buster Bunn; her daughters, Pam Phillips and husband, Jeff, of Kinston, Jan Pennington and husband, Rex, of Goldsboro, and Patti Freemon and husband, Stuart, of Pikeville; and seven grandchildren, Brandon Phillips and wife, Candice, Justin Phillips, Marcus Pennington and wife, Tammy, Philip Pennington and wife, Michelle, Daniel Pennington, Catherine Freemon, and Anne Stuart Freemon.

Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund or the Clarence and Zora Woodall Bunn Endowment at Mount Olive College.
