LUDIE S. WATERS
Feb. 20, 1930-July 14, 2010
CALYPSO -- Ludie Smith Waters, 80, longtime resident of Calypso, died Wednesday night at the home of her daughter.
Services will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home Saturday, 2 p.m., with her brother, the Rev. Bill Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Calypso Cemetery.
Mrs. Waters was the daughter of the late Charlie and Betty Bradshaw Smith, and the widow of A. Talmadge Waters.
Being a "mother" came natural to her, as she gathered many children under her wings and raised them as they were her own. These children, too numerous to name, all are, no doubt, better citizens today because of her influence.
Her surviving family includes a son, Butch Waters of Mount Olive; a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria Waters Burch and Bill Burch of Faison; her grandchildren, Heather Waters Bleacher and husband, James, of Goldsboro and William Burch of Faison; her great-grandchildren, Bethany, Haley and Wyatt Bleacher; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elwood and Evelyn Smith of Faison and the Rev. Bill and Ellen Smith of Turkey; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Amie Cook of Clinton, Mae Cottle of Florida and Edith and Bud Wilson of Clinton; another brother-in-law, Mosley Waters of Calypso; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and at other times, at the home of Gloria and Bill Burch, 639 Burch Road, Faison (Burch Farms).
